That’s unacceptable to me- Ally McCoist pushed over the edge by Ibrox squad

Ally McCoist has slammed the lack of ‘hard yards’ put in by Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad in their Champions League defeat from Napoli.

After losing 4-0 to Celtic on September 3 Ibrox fans were questioning the attitude of players, when they repeated that scoreline four days later the claim was out there that the players had chucked it.

That feeling has grown steadily over the last few weeks with the 7-1 defeat from Liverpool the most obvious example of players that had lost interest.

UEFA cover every angle of Champions League ties, there is more to their operations than shots on and off target with the distance covered by every player available soon after every match.

Picking up on McCoist’s comments on BT Sport, Football Scotland report the former Ibrox boss saying:

We’ve already got the statistic through that they covered 4.1km more than Rangers. So you cut your centre-backs a bit of slack and take your goalkeeper out of the equation.

That’s 4.1km roughly between eight players. They effectively have eight players who are running 500 metres each – EACH – more than Rangers. That’s unacceptable for me.

If there is any sign of slacking against Aberdeen on Saturday 48,000 loyal bears will be quick to highlight the culprits.
