The Daily Record makes its return to the Ibrox media tent

It appears that there has been a breakthrough between the club from Ibrox and the Daily Record.

From moonbeams to billionaires from Motherwell the Glasgow based publisher and the clubs from Ibrox have enjoyed a special relationship even if it has become strained at times with the truth breaking out everywhere else except on the pages of the Record.

Circulation has plunged to under 70,000 paper copies a day and around 16m pageviews a month online which isn’t going to feed their lengthy staffroll for much longer.

Underneath however there is still a mutual dependecy, the elderly Army of Record readers are mainly Ibrox leaning while the club realise that it is best not to get too close to their braking, extremist fan-media although it is useful to throw them scraps to keep them sweet.

At yesterday’s media conferences with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ryan Kent, Lindsay Herron of the Express was on the Zoom invite list.

These days the Express and Record are much the same, both in the Reach Group with shared stories and reporters across both titles.

While the on-line nutters scream about the Daily Rhebel, Andy Newport from the Record (spelling) was coming up with some very detailed quotes from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, acquired from outside the seven minute broadcast conference.

It seems that the previous communications strategy is being diluted, perhaps there is some bad news in the Annual Report that will require loyal bears to circle the wagon?
