Some Ibrox fans seem determined to buy into a rumour that James Tavernier is carrying an injury.

The defender, affectionately known as Tavpen has apparently been playing below the ‘high standards’ set over the previous two turbo-charged seasons.

Now into his seventh season at the club without any transfer interest from elsewhere, the former Wigan Athletic ace has no real understudy at Ibrox causing concern about the implications of an injury.

Fan-site Ibrox Noise reports:

Despite Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s cryptic denials, it seems captain James Tavernier IS carrying an injury with rumours he’s to undergo surgery and will miss the end of the year start of next as a result.

We haven’t got final confirmation of that, but no one can deny his wincing in at least one of the training videos recently, and he’s certainly not been on the boil this season with regards his form

Next week Tavpen is scheuled to lead his side out against Napoli, it seems that the goal touch of last season’s top scorer in the Europa League has gone AWOL with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side sitting on a goal difference of 1-16 after four defeats in the big competition.
