Wacky Ibrox site tips Tavernier for England World Cup call up

One wacky Ibrox fan site is tipping James Tavernier for a World Cup call up!

Seven years ago Wigan Athletic were delighted to get an offer of £200,000 for the journeyman who has been captain of the Ibrox Tribute Act for the last five seasons.

Since Tav moved to Ibrox he has picked up two winners medals- while watching Celtic scoop 15 of 21 domestic honours.

During that time there hasn’t been the slightest hint of interest in the defender from any English side but out of thin air Ibrox Noise is reporting.

Rangers could have a shock England call up after Gareth Southgate was plunged into sudden chaos with the loss of all three of his right backs after injuries sidelined three world class players in a position England are usually so strong in.

After losing Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker, Rangers’ James Tavernier could well be a slim chance of an emergency call with the world cup only weeks away, in light of just Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier left, the Geordie captain himself experiencing injury concerns as well.

He is also on standby as fourth choice should none of the other three make it.

But it’s Rangers captain Tavernier we’re most interested in – true, his chances of playing in the world cup for his country are close to nil, but they’re still a lot higher than they were a few days ago when England were embarrassed by the riches they had at RB.

Tav’s chances are less than nil, other than taking penalties since 2015 his career is a non-event, there are right-backs in The Championship and in League One who have more chance of earning a call from Gareth Southgate.

NB Shortly before half-time in tonight’s match with Liverpool Connor Goldson overstretched before being replaced. If as looks like it is a hamstring injury the former Shrewsbury starlet won’t be back in action until after the World Cup break. Goldson’s World Cup hopes look to be over…
