Before today’s match at Livingston Sky Sports screened a short but significant tribute to the most significant black players in Celtic’s history.

Delivered by Cameron Carter-Vickers from various locations around Glasgow it was a reminder of how society and football has changed from the days where the Celtic squad was drawn almost exclusively from Glasgow and Lanarkshire spiced up by a player or two from Fife, Ayrshire or some other Scottish regions.

Gil Herron was Celtic’s first black player with Paul Wilson a significant influence in the early seventies with the appealing habit of scoring in the Glasgow derby.

From Paul Elliott onwards in 1989 the Celtic side has had a core of black players with Carter-Vickers giving a special mention for Bobo Balde who made a very special impact as part of Martin O’Neill’s special squad.

From Henrik Larsson to Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard some very significant goals have been celebrated with one from Carter-Vickers at Ibrox in April as valuable as any.
