James Tavernier has finally emerged from his Champions League bunker- issueing a statement on his club website to explain away a 7-1 Champions League defeat from Liverpool.

Borna Barisic was sent out to speak to BT Sport after Wednesday’s hammering with a few bland sound-bites full of apologies to supporters.

Tav claims that he was unable to speak to the media due to being selected for a UEFA dope test but it took him more than 24 hours to ‘speak’ out.

At 10.30pm on Thursday, after a stormy day of abuse on social media the Ibrox club released a statement that is apparently the words of their captain.

The language sounds very un-Tav like, none of the sentences end with y’know, as he explains his way through another humiliating defeat.

In seven years at the club the former Wigan utility man has won two out of 21 trophies, in contrast Celtic have won 15 honours.

Against the hoops Tav has lost five goals three times, twice lost four and came back for more as he closes in on a half century of penalty kicks.
