Barry Ferguson believes that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is a worried man!

When you are taking on Napoli on their own patch after being booed off the park at home to Livingston it is perhaps understandable.

Since the start of September van Bronckhorst has presided over a grim run of results matched only by the underwhelming performances of players that appear to have switched off.

A run of fixtures that covers Napoli, Aberdeen and Ajax over seven days will put the Dutchman firmly in the spotlight with his old team-mate fearing the worst.

Picking up on the former Rangers captain’s appearance on Go Radio, the Daily Record reports Ferguson saying:

I am listening to Gio doing his interviews. He looks worried. He looks frustrated. He looks angry and I totally get that but he is totally honest and he knows the fans ain’t happy.

He knows they need to be better within games. That was a sore one on Saturday. It was a hard watch. Livingston go ahead after four minutes and Rangers just didn’t get going.

During the game, at no stage did I feel that Rangers were going to score. They got out of jail with Lundstram scoring in (stoppage) time but it’s worrying times, no doubt about it.

The fans, you can hear them, they’re not happy during and after the game, and rightly so. We just need to see what this week brings. Hopefully a more spirited performance but we’ll see.

Van Bronckhorst is under contract until May 2025.
