Barry Ferguson fears that Giovanni van Bronckhorst won’t have a worthwhile transfer kitty in January- if he survives that long I charge.

While the former Alloa boss was celebrating a £5.9m profit in the 2022 accounts Douglas Park was dealing with a £900,000 loss for the year.

It doesn’t look like there will be another Nathan Patterson to shift in January, even Aston Villa won’t be offering compensation for van Bronckhorst.

In the new year there will be no Thursday European nights for the oldest squad in Scotland as they try to keep Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side within reach.

Showing an unusual interest in accountancy, balancing the books and paying your way, Ferguson shared his fears on Go Radio last night with the Daily Record reporting their star columnist saying:

Where are Rangers’ assets? Kent and Morelos should have been done in the summer.

Gio just wants it sorted. It’s rumbling in the background, which he doesn’t like. After what happened with Goldson last year, because there was all the talk leading up to the end of the season, is he staying or is he going?

You don’t want the same scenario with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent because it’s playing a part, I believe, in their minds as well. The club and players need to sit down and draw a line under it.

Whether they’re staying or whether they’re going, and that needs to be sorted as soon as possible, for the manager’s sake and for the football club’s sake. The team’s sake as well

Looking at the likely values of Morelos and Kent, Ferguson admitted:

When you look back to the summer, you’re talking £8, 9, 10million for both of those players. In January, you’re lucky if you’ll get £1million for each of them.

It seems that Leeds United have dropped their long running interest in Kent with Morelos more likely to return to Colombia than join the stars of La Liga.
