Celtic look like picking up a summer transfer bonus with Bayer Leverkusen expecting to see Jeremie Frimpong to the EPL.

A move to Manchester United would complete a remarkable three year cycle across the city via Scotland and Germany.

After starting just 36 matches for Celtic Frimpong was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 for a fee of around £10m.

Manchester City were due a significant cut of that transfer fee but Celtic in turn will have insisted on a similar clause when they did business with the Bundesliga side.

Sky Sports Germany reports:

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is currently with the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar. Even if he has not yet been able to present himself there, a summer move to Manchester United is becoming more and more apparent.

At the end of October, Sky reported for the first time that Manchester United was dealing with Leverkusen’s legal all-rounder. The 21-year-old Frimpong now knows that the Red Devils are interested and, according to SkyInfos, is also open to a change.

Even if the Dutchman still has a contract with the Werkself until 2025, talks should be accelerated after the World Cup. A change in the summer is therefore imminent, especially since Leverkusen are already looking for successors for the right side.

Frimpong has already scored five goals and three assists in 21 competitive games for Bayer this season.

The exact details of sell-on clauses rarely make it into the public domain but whether the player moves on or not there can be a worthwhile kick-back.

Celtic picked up a significant fee when Southampton sold Virgil van Dijk to Southampton but more than four years later there is no chance of a fee coming in from Lyon for Moussa Dembele.
