Ted Lasso has sent a very special ,essage to Cameron Carter Vickers on the eve of the World Cup Finals.
The Celtic defender isn’t quite the All- American hero but his back story and eligibility strikes a chord across the USA where national coach Gregg Berhalte can call on players from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds.

Cameron, So let me get this straight, your dad is a French citizen who met your mother in Greece, raised you in Essex. You summered in Baton Rouge and now are playing for the U.S. Men’s national team? If that’s not the most American thing I’ve ever heard then I don’t know what is.

A year ago Carter-Vickers wasn’t in contention for international football but his commanding for for Celtic has earned him a place in the 25-man squad.
Over the last month the defender’s status at his club has been highlighted by taking on the captaincy in the absence of the injured Callum McGregor.
With the USA drawn in the same group as England, Wales and Iran there should be plenty of attention on the Celtic defender as he looks to transfer his club form into the international arena.
In their opening match the USA face Wales on Monday November 21.
