Celtic overcome Nick Walsh VAR call to seal dramatic injury time victory

Celtic overcame VAR madness from Nick Walsh to seal a dramatic 4-2 win over Dundee United.

The hoops took an early lead through Sead Haksabanovic but in the 12th minute Walsh decided to get David Dickinson to review an incident that resulted in a penalty awarded against Alexandro Bernabei for a close up handball with his back to play. Steven Fletcher levelled from the penalty spot.

Two weeks ago against Hearts Walsh saw Michael Smith raise his arm to divert a James Forrest pass but on that occasion he decided not to award a penalty.

That decision took the energy out of Celtic’s impressive start to the match but in 34th minute Haksabanovic netted his second with a low shot across the United goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.

Celtic had all the second half pressure but looked like dropping two points when a late cross from Dylan Levitt flew across Joe Hart into the net.

Staring at two dropped points Celtic forced a series of late corners, in the second minute of stoppage time Kyogo Furuhashi glanced home a header after Tony Ralston flicked on a corner from Matt O’Riley.

There was still time for another goal with Liel Abada racing on to a long ball then deftly chipping over Birighitti to put Celtic 4-2 in front.

Walsh decided to delay the restart to carry out a possible offside check, there was no touch from Daizen Maeda with the full time whistle blown soon afterwards,

On Tuesday Willie Collum was announced as the VAR but at some stage he was replaced by Walsh.
