Aaron Mooy’s long recovery from quitting China and being clubless came to fruition today with a atand-out performance for Australia in their win over Tunisia this morning.

After losing their opener to France a victory was essential for the Socceroos with Mooy in commanding form alongside Jackson Irvine in central midfield.

Mitchell Duke scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute which keeps Australia’s hopes of qualification alive going into their final match against Denmark. If France beat the Danes today a draw in their final match could be enough to take Australia through on four points.

As recently as June Mooy was training in a public park, unsure of how he would be able to claim a place in the World Cup without club football. Tom Rogic was in a similar situation as a free agent.

In July Celtic came calling, within the space of this month the one time St Mirren midfielder has played in the Santiago Beranabeu Stadium against Real Madrid and played a key role in a World Cup victory.
