Daily Record in new circulation crash

Sales of the Daily Record crashed to an average of 64,971 during October according to figures published by the Press Gazette.

In June the Glasgow based publisher saw daily sales drop below 70,000 for the first time, with a monthly fall of 3% it looks like sales will be below 60,000 early in 2023.

As recently as the late 1990s the Record was still shifting more than 500,000 sales a day but the digital revolution has virtually passed them by leaving the Record and Sunday Mail with a declining rump of elderly readers.

While the title appears popular online digital advertising revenues are miniscule compared to the glory days of print when a few titles had a virtual monopoly of the Scottish advertising market.

The long standing backing for any regime at Ibrox has turned out to be a massive own goal, in November 2010 readers were introduced to a billionaire from Motherwell, 19 months later Rangers were packed off to the liquidator.

Over recent months the Record has been banging the drum for the incredible deals of Ross Wilson and the cash jackpots of reaching the Europa League Final and Champions League group stage.

Now it seems that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is being retained as manager because the club is left with the financial hangover of their solitary league title win in season 20/21.

The Daily Record . On any given day ,the major stories are from English Daily Mirror scoop reporters ! All English football ,golf and tennis stories are covered again by Mirror scoops , yet the Record has about 8print typists covering Scottish football. Unbelievable! The rag is reduced to bringing us boring ,old man loses bunnet walking the dog stories ! Lazy ,pathetic journalism at its worst . All of this and it still has the gall to call itself SCOTLAND ‘S CHAMPION…… What an insult to all decent journalists out there ……! Soon be time for it to raise its price ,again .

The Record at one time, a long time ago was a credible labour backing social voice, not any more, its journalism is pathetic, its football reporting is shockingly bad, absolute dross every day, I can’t remember the last time I bought a copy.and never will.

The DR could do worse than try one last effort to stop the inevitable.

Fire all their Sports ‘journos’ and replace them with non-local journalists.

Tell the truth about The Rangers, Rangers FC and the SFA / SPFL.

Might get a boost to sales… but 10 years too late. 🙂
