Steven Gerrard’s reputation as a manager has been completely trashed by Graham Dorrans.

The former West Brom journeyman finally made a dream move to Ibrox in the summer of 2017 but injury restricted him to just 20 appearances over two seasons. A sort of Kemar Roofe or Filip Helander of the Pedro Caixinha era.

In the summer of 2018 Gerrard arrived to a media fanfare but as the ground is laid for Micky Beale arriving as manager his role as No. 2 to Gerrard is being subjected to incredible spin.

Recalling his days on the treatment table and the rehab gym, a misty-eyed Dorrans told the Daily Record:

I was injured at Rangers a lot of the time but I’d watch Mick’s sessions every day out the window of the gym at Auchenhowie. I’ve always said this – through my whole career – he’s the one coach that I really wish I could have worked with more.

I’m disappointed I didn’t get a chance to learn more from him. Watching from that gym window, I used to think, ‘He could actually help my game and improve me as a player. I’d have loved to have benefited more than I did during his time at Rangers.

I could see right away his ideas were top notch. Gerrard was in the background. And without being disrespectful, he was the face of the club. When Mick came in, he wasn’t as big a name as Steven Gerrard.

When the manager walked in, everyone sat up and took notice because of who he was. But everyone in the building quickly realised that Beale was there to do it all. He was the man with the answers when it came to coaching and tactics.

Eighteen months ago Gerrard was on the verge of being nominated for a knighthood by the Record for stopping Celtic from winning another title, now he is being dismissed as the face of the club while Beale steered the Tribute Act to one trophy win in nine attempts.

Hopefully Beale will soon be able to pick up on the legacy he left behind a year ago when he hot footed it to Aston Villa.

Dorrans went on to take a wage from Dundee and Dunfermline before retiring in the summer at the age of 35.

What a pile of garbage as usual from the daily record

  • Nick66 says:

Perhaps Graham could come out of retirement and sign for QPR, fulfilling his dream of being coached by Beale for three games prior to being crocked.
