With their long running breach of contract with Sports Direct settled in February the Ibrox Tribute Act has been hit with a £9.5m claim for lost sales from Hummel.

While Dave King bitches to his media messengers about Douglas Park the current directors are picking up the tab for King’s reckless actions while he was chairman.

The summer of 2018 looks like being a very costly one for the Tribute Act as King tried to pull off two deals that are returning to bite.

Ditching Sports Direct cost the club £8m plus extensive legal costs, the move to Hummel could end up proving even more costly as The Sun reports:

RANGERS football club are being sued by a former kit supplier for more than £9.5million in lost sales.

The figure is detailed in paperwork lodged by briefs representing Elite Sports Ltd, the company behind Hummel sportswear.

Lawyers representing the Danish company started proceedings yesterday at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to have sales figures released to them.

It’s understood the loss is connected with sales at stores on Argyle Street in Glasgow, a store in Belfast and online.

The court was told how Rangers entered into the contract in September 2018 and a decision by a court in London just six weeks later resulted in the Glasgow club “not performing” in the agreement.

During the hearing, David Thomson KC, who was representing the sportswear firm, told Lord Braid that his client is still unaware of “exact sales figures” but the judge has now passed an order forcing the Ibrox side to disclose sales figures.

An injunction from Sports Direct meant that the famous chevron kit wasn’t available for sale until September 2018, missing the lucrative holiday period.

Only small volumes were available to buy online, after a number of issues Hummel terminated the three year deal with 12 months remaining. Castore Sports then came to the rescue with their so-called high quality merchandise.

The recently published club accounts made no specific mention to the Hummel case but did admit that the company was involved in a number of legal disputes.
