Momentum is building towards installing David Martindale as the next Ibrox manager.

Despite carefully arranged leaks that there is no question of a change of manager the fact that on-message pundits and media outlets are being fed that line confirms the concerns inside the Blue Room.

Exactly a year ago they were forced to find a replacement for Steven Gerrard with the unemployed van Bronckhorst the overwhelming choice among fans.

With another glitzy foreign experiment falling to pieces a true blue appointment will be needed to sooth the concerns of loyal bears with Martindale and Robbie Neilson of Hearts the obvious choice.

The Livi boss is a clear media darling, on Saturday he shared the cosy Sportsound studio with Kenny Macintyre and Leeann Crichton, with minimal compensation needed to pay Livingston off.

Picking up on calls to Radio Clyde’s Super Scoreboard last night, the Glasgow Times reports:

DAVID MARTINDALE appears to be a popular choice among Rangers fans to become the club’s next manager.

Some fans have called for the Livingston boss to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the helm of Ibrox.

The Dutchman is under growing pressure from supporters, with several groups calling for him to be removed from his position following a poor string of results and performances.

Rangers lost 2-1 to St Johnstone on Sunday in what ultimately was a bitter blow to their title hopes, as the result left them seven points behind Celtic.

And some Rangers fans featuring on Clyde Superscoreboard want Martindale to be appointed in place of Van Bronckhorst.

One supporter called to claim that the Lions gaffer, partnered with Kenny Miller as his assistant, would get the Ibrox club back on track.

The pair worked together briefly at the Tony Macaroni, but with Miller as manager.

In 2006 Martindale was sentenced to six and a half years imprisonment at Edunburgh High Court for drug dealing and money laundering.

Livingston host Aberdeen tonight with Neilson taking Hearts to Ibrox tomorrow, it is understood that the Tynecastle boss will wear a shirt and tie and comb his hair as he auditions for the Ibrox job.

Who will replace van Bronckhorst at Ibrox?

Wee Davie has the class and dignity for it

Robbie is the man, good European experience

Mister Gerrard- the Prodigal Returns
