Get over it- Ange Postecoglou’s brilliant reply to ‘disappointed’ Steve Clarke

Ange Postecoglou has fired straight back at Steve Clarke after the Scotland boss shared his disappointment that no Celtic players will be on Scotland duty in Turkey next week.

As internationals go this one is so pointless that it hasn’t been delegated by FIFA meaning that clubs aren’t compelled to release players to their countries.

Since February Celtic have been using the World Cup break to take a two match trip to Australia, other than the players actually going to the World Cup Postecoglou will take his strongest squad.

Clarke had been critical of Celtic’s decision but picking up on the pre-match comments of the Celtic boss with Radio Scotland, The Sun reports Postecoglou saying:

Steve’s got every right to be disappointed, he’s the national team manager. I’ve been there and I’ve been disappointed.

As a club manager sometimes we’re disappointed when players go away with national teams and get injured or don’t play. We all get over our disappointment pretty quickly.

I’ve no issue with Steve. I wish him all the best but, for us, this has been in our planning for quite a while.

Were Celtic right to withhold players from the Scotland squad

No, always a great honour to represent the SFA

Yes, Celtic comes first every time. Great decision, at last

In September Callum McGregor played three matches in seven days on the 21st, 24th and 27th against Ukraine twice and Ireland. On October 5 against RB Leipzig he suffered a knee injury and hasn’t played since.

David Turnbull reported to that squad but was sent back injured to Celtic.
