Giovanni van Bronckhorst showed no sign of walking away as he tuned in to a media conference call today.

Since Sunday’s defeat against St Johnstone there has been intense pressure to have the Dutchman removed with normally loyal media outlets calling for change.

A place in the Champions League record books and a seven point gap behind Celtic has put turned the heat up on van Bronckhorst but he didn’t show any sign of giving up on his pay off when he faced the media to preview tomorrow’s match at home to Hearts.

The Daily Record (13.38) reports the current Ibrox boss saying:

There is still a long way to go, we have made it difficult for ourselves and now need to aim for maximum points. It’s very important to get the two wins heading into the break. We will get players returning from injury during the break to make us stronger.

I am focused on the team and winning games, that is all that matters. I believe I can turn it around, all my focus is on winning tomorrow – that is the most important thing.

With a contract running until May 2025 it will be a costly exercise to put van Bronckhorst onto gardening leave but with a company AGM looking on December 6 the board know that supporter anger will turn on them if they aren’t seen to be making changes.

Who will replace van Bronckhorst at Ibrox?

Alternatively, keep Gio in post until the AGM.
He can act as a human shield for the Board.

Suppose speculation about Gio will also be a useful distraction to the RIFC Accounts?

He might even be ‘Warbutoned’ – and see his sacking on the Sky TV tickertape! 🙂
