David Martindale has ruled out a future move to take charge of Celtic.

The Livingston boss has been basking in the news that he is the SPFL Manager of the Month for November which was announced two days after the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Putting two and two together creates easy speculation but there are a few obstacles in Martindale’s path to taking on a major job in football.

Livingston’s plastic pitch and basic style of football seems to be the perfect platform for Martindale to operate at plus the much more serious issue of his criminal past.

There are few issues more serious that drug dealing and money laundering with the Livingston boss spending three and a half years in jail after being convicted.

After becoming caretaker manager of Livingston two years ago Martindale faced an SFA hearing before his job was confirmed on a permanent basis.

Discussing on Open Goal a possible move to Ibrox, The Sun reports the Livingston boss saying:

Everybody thinks David Martindale, what a great story, but do they want an ex-convict (at their club)?

Rangers and Celtic are global institutions. Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts are big clubs in Scottish football, but Celtic and Rangers are global.

I’m happy with that. I’ve made my bed and I’ll lie in it and I can understand (Why they wouldn’t want me).

Martindale claimed that he held talks with Fleetwood Town before the League One side appointed Scott Brown as their new manager.

Ulster cannot be considered “global “ Dave!

  • PAUL MCCANN says:

for such mercies let us be truly thankful

  • Brain* O’Driscoll says:

I can put up with a lot but with him at the helm I’d be giving up a season ticket I’ve held since 1996 and following rugby.

    *Misspelling is intentional.

Gio said Beale was at the Bronx at the boards behest while he was still manager and had a go at Beale. Dave King is trying to oust “the rangers” sitting chairman. They are also being sued for millions of pounds . But the SMSM have almost entirely ignored all this. I think we should at every opportunity remind the SMSM what their job is. On another matter a former sevco director has refused to come back to this country from INDIA in his words “I would NOT get a fair trial” that statement should have sent shockwaves throughout Scotland especially MP’S and the people within the JUDICIAL SYSTEM

At least DM shows awareness here that his association with a club who is a global brand,is highly unlikely to happen, and he accepts this.He got involved in a disgusting trade, but has done his time, has showed contrition, and now deserves to be left alone to earn a living. That includes not having his past dragged up every 10 minutes.

  • Seppington says:

Criminal past and all hunnery aside, the notion of a footballing luddite like Martindale being considered for the Celtic job is about as unlikely a prospect as the Pope’s portrait replacing Lizzie’s (now Chuckle’s I suppose) in the Ayebrokes goat-defiling room…

So, Fleetwood could have had Martindale, but instead, they ended up with Broony!?Ah, well!
But, Martindale’s “Time Out” from the game means that he missed a professional trick or two in that time, so he’d never make it at the top grade (my opinion)!
As for the Raingurrz a “Global Brand”, do me a favour?! After Australia, this year, we will hit Japan next summer!

  • John Copeland says:

I knew things were going too well and Celtic’s luck would change ! Just give me a minute to blow my nose ,I’ll be alright ….I would not have wee Wink Martindale as the guy who folds the napkins in the Celtic cafeteria ! As wind ups go……….

  • Robert Downey says:

He has zero chance of getting a job with Celtic, I’m not so sure about Rangers, he might fit in well there.
