Kris Boyd has virtually admitted that Mick Beale has been preparing for the Ibrox job for over a month.

While managing QPR the Londoner opted to make a high profile visit to Ibrox on a free Saturday rather than watch some future Championship opponents.

QPR lost at Birmingham the night before Beale was in the Lounden Tavern, after returning to work he managed to pick up one point from his last four matches in charge.

Today, a week after Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked Beale took over with The Sun listening in to Boyd’s comments on Sky Sports News:

He has coached in different countries, but it brings it’s own risk when you go out on your own. I’m sure QPR fans would have been saying the same things in the summer.

He has never been a manager before, it’s a risk, and taking over from Mark Warburton with the job he has done.

But he went in there and started the season really well, albeit the last few games it’s not been.

I think there has probably been other things on Mick Beale’s mind – he was up at Ibrox a couple of weeks ago. He has probably had one eye on this.

I know he has been very vocal on why he turned down Wolves, but Rangers is a special football club. It plays with your heart strings, and he feels as if he can go and turn it around.

Boyd returned to Ibrox in 2014 to play for the Tribute Act, scoring three times in 29 Championship appearances before being returned to Kilmarnock.

Will Beale be more of a threat to Celtic than wee Gio?

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
