SFA hand David Dickinson rapid Celtic return

David Dickinson is lined up for a rapid Celtic return following his controversial performance against Dundee United on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou made his first post-match criticism of match officials following Celtic’s 4-2 win, on Wednesday Dickinson will be on VAR duty as Celtic take on Motherwell at Fir Park.

Celtic fans were infuriated when Dickinson awarded Dundee United a 12th minute penalty on Saturday for an incident missed by the match referee.

Nick Walsh, who refused the hoops a penalty against Hearts two weeks earlier, was on VAR duty and suggested that Dickinson reviewed an incident involving Alexandro Bernabei with the match official pointing to the penalty spot. Steven Fletcher equalised with Celtic back on level terms and knocked out their stride by a four minute delay.

Later in the first half Dickinson took no action against Craig Sibbald for a brutal, high attack on Giorgos Giakoumakis. Walsh paused the game to review for a possible red card, after a two minute halt play resumed with no action taken in this instance.
