Victor Wanyama has given Alistair Johnston a full rundown on what to expect at Celtic.
Over the last week there has been very strong speculation linking the 24-year-old defender with a move to the Scottish champions with Johnston chatting as if the deal has already been completed.
Normally players involved in transfer talk keep a distance, insist that it is just speculation or at a push claim that it is flattering to be linked with the buying club.
Johnston seems very clued up on all matters Celtic with one of his Montreal team-mates able to give him a proper low-down on what he can expect in Glasgow.
The defender told the Daily Mail:
Victor is one who has definitely been in my ear about it. He had glowing reviews for the club.
He was one of the ones who said to me: “Look, if you get an opportunity and something comes up at Celtic, you have to take it”.
Vic says it’s the biggest club he had ever played for and he has played for some pretty big clubs in Spurs and Southampton — so that was a pretty glowing recommendation.
He said that anywhere he went he still got constant shouts of “Hail, Hail” and “Come on the Bhoys”.
So I got a glowing review from Victor and I have done a lot of my own research. Victor has done a lot of research for me as well, to be fair — he’s the best agent Celtic could have.
Canada’s World Cup involvement ends this week, paving the way for what seems to be the formalities to be tied up in Johnston’s £3m switch to Celtic.
Last season Ange Postecoglou announced three signings on December 31, it looks like this season’s January business could be completed even earlier.
