Celtic will be backed by less than 2,000 fans when they return to action at Aberdeen on December 17.

Pittodrie has a capacity of 22,199 but it is highly unlikely that the home side will be able to muster 20,000 supporters for a Saturday lunchtime match that will be shown live on Sky Sports.

In the glory days of the eighties Celtic would take 8,000 fans into The Beach End but those days are long gone with one section of the South Stand reserved for away supporters.

Aberdeen have had some success in boosting crowds by staging Friday evening matches but television dictates the kick-off for Celtic’s match.

Next week Ange Postecoglou will take his squad to Portugal for some warm weather training with attention on Callum McGregor.

The Celtic captain has been missing since he suffered a knee injury away to RB Leipzig on October 5 but appeared to be taking a full part in training during the trip to Australia.
