Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s agent has revealed that the income generated by the Dutchman was used to repay loans to investors rather than spend on players.

During 12 months in charge at Ibrox just over £30m was raised by the transfers of Nathan Patterson, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey.

Van Bronckhorst took the side through four knock out rounds in the Europa League to reach the final in Seville then two sell-out qualifiers to bag a place in the group stage of the Champions League.

That sort of revenue couldn’t have been anticipated when he took over from Steven Gerrard but rather than spend the cash on new players directors were repaid while Ross Wilson brought in a handful of crocks to join Filip Helander and Kemar Roofe in the treatment room.

Guido Albers, van Bronckhorst’s agent, met Jim White in Qatar with HITC reporting on the interview broadcast of TalkSPORT this morning:

Absolutely disappointed, he was ready to move forward but he didn’t get a chance. Disappointed because the club is amazing. He felt he needed more time, the Champions League puts pressure on the team. They played a lot of games.

It was difficult to make the team better. It was the time to move forward. The structure of the club – they (investors) put a lot of finances in the club a few years ago, the money available was not much.

He was not very lucky with the transfers. I thought he would get another chance. For me personally, it would have been better not to qualify for the Champions League – a victim of his own success.

With two and a half years left to run on van Bronckhorst’s contract it will be an expensive business to pay him off and also pay out compensation to QPR for the new management team.

The interview was at 10.50 in today’s show with Simon Jordan.

When you analyse it, Van Bronckhorst’s record at Sevco isn’t bad. He generated a lot of revenue in his role. But now he’s playing with his train-set! It seems that the directors cashed in on his success and brought in a rookie to replace him. The reason? They know they can’t beat Celtic! Happy days ahead! Biouchos le Dia!
