At 2pm this afternoon Fabrizio Romano reported that Celtic and Montreal have come to a verbal agreement over a transfer fee/package for Alistair Johnston.
Things seem to have moved quickly since the defender was first linked with Celtic on Wednesday but as the signing of Yuki Kobayashi showed the hoops aren’t slow to get deals done and dusted.
Johnston is currently in Qatar with the Canadian World Cup squad but will be fully briefed on developments ahead of the January transfer window.

At the age of 24 Johnston fits into the sort of bracket that Ange Postecoglou has specialised in, young and hungry players that are already making their mark rather than questionable teenage prospects and projects.
Josip Juranovic is currently Celtic’s first choice right-back but if there is a verbal agreement to sign Johnston there is every likelihood that there is a similar deal in place for Juranovic’s exit.
