Very average, they deserved that Dutch legend van der Vaart slaughters Gio’s Champions League flops

Rafael van der Vaart didn’t spare the feelings of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as he delivered his thoughts on last night’s Champions League tie at Ibrox.

Without getting anywhere near top gear Ajax cruised to a 3-1 victory on the back of four consecutive defeats, less than a week after losing 3-0 at home to Liverpool.

For the home side it was another chapter in disaster as they replaced Dinamo Zagreb as the worst side ever to play in the Champions League. A record of 0-0-6- 2-22 will take some beating with van Bronckhorst’s name in the history books.

Van der Vaart won 109 international caps, mostly alongside van Bronckhorst but unlike Scotland pundits in Holland say on-air what others whisper when the cameras aren’t rolling.
