A handful of Celtic fans were all hooped up as they watched one of the biggest World Cup shocks of all time.

Saudi Arabia set a new benchmark with their 2-1 victory over Argentina but Germany suffered just as big a shock today when they crashed to defeat from Japan.

Daizen Maeda was the only member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad to make the cut for the Japanese World Cup cut with Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate having to look on from afar.

A small group of Celtic fans were in Qatar for the match which seemed to be going to form when the Germans opened the scoring through a  Ilkay Gundogan penalty after 33 minutes.

The last 15 minutes of the match will never be forgotten as firstly Ritsu Doan equalised before Takuma Asano, who had replaced Maeda after 57 minutes, put Japan in front in the 83rd minute.

Germany were stunned and unable to find an equaliser. With Spain hammering Costa Rica 7-0 the Germans face a massive challenge to finish in the top two in the group to advance to the knock out stage.
