Someone at the Daily Record Sports Desk is in for a long wait for Sweden to appear at the World Cup Finals.

Presented with an accurate well reasoned piece by Mark Walker about players from FIVE clubs being denied a call up to the Sweden squad for international matches against Mexico and Algeria the Record staffer decided to add some top spin with Carl Starfelt apparently bound for Qatar.

Last night it emerged that Celtic wouldn’t be releasing players for Scotland’s friendly against Turkey with that policy repeated for other nations including Sweden, Israel and Greece.

Celtic’s policy isn’t unique, other clubs are doing exactly the same as the Record report explains:

And Swedish boss Andersson reckons FIFA have made a mockery of this month’s friendlies because five clubs have refused to release players – Celtic for Starfelt, Spurs’ Dejan Kulusevski, Spezia’s Albin Ekdal, Legia Warsaw’s Mattias Johansson and Jens Cajuste of Reims

While Celtic have been open with their policy other clubs will simply withdraw players injured over the weekend leaving Steve Clarke to pad out the Scotland squad with meaningless players like Andy Halliday and Barrie McKay for a meaningless match.
