Since Rangers’ return to the SPL after their embarrassing relegation to the Third Division following a severe debt crisis at the club, the biannual Old Firm derby has produced some resounding wins for the Hoops.

Celtic 4-0 Rangers (2022-23)

The list starts with the most recent battering at Celtic Park this season. In what was only the sixth game of the new league campaign, Rangers crumbled early with Celtic taking the lead within 8 minutes. Our lead doubled thanks to a 32nd-minute strike before it became 3-0 at 40 minutes. With the game all but over at halftime, a fourth goal 12 minutes from time put the icing on the cake for the home side.

The two teams’ second meeting this season is their first league match in January, a few weeks after the winter World Cup. With Scotland absent, the Tartan Terriers will be delighted to know that England’s World Cup winner odds with Paddy Power have slipped to fifth place, at 8/1. Hoops fans can use the website’s World Cup betting tips to follow Celtic’s Bhoys in Qatar, such as Croatia’s Josip Juranovic or Japan’s Daizen Maeda, monitoring their progress while club football pauses for the international break.

Celtic 5-0 Rangers (2017-18)

The last time the World Cup took place in 2018 was a similar story of domination for Celtic. The Hoops again used Celtic Park to their advantage, scoring three goals before the break, the third strike coming right on the half-time whistle from James Forrest. Tomas Rogic made it four just two minutes after the re-start with Callum McGregor capping off a fine team performance to go one goal better than 2022-23, making it 5-0 on the day.

April’s victory completed an unbeaten season against Rangers in 2017-18 (W3 D1), as The Bhoys recorded their 49th SPL title and seventh successive crown against their arch-rivals. Brendan Rodgers’ side finished the season with 82 points, a massive nine points above Aberdeen in second and ten off Rangers in third, who narrowly scraped themselves a spot in the Europa League.

Rangers 1-5 Celtic (2016-17)

After two home thrashings on this list, it seems only fair to highlight a recent domination at Ibrox as well. On the day, a 7th-minute penalty from Scott Sinclair got the Hoops off to a flier, with Leigh Griffiths making it two just 11 minutes later. A Callum McGregor strike seven minutes after the break made it three, before defender Dedryck Boyata even got in on the action on 66 minutes. A Kenny Miller strike ten minutes from time was a mere consolation for the hosts, before Mikael Lustig restored the Hoops’ four-goal advantage three minutes from time.

A game dominated by the Celts reflected a remarkable campaign in Rodger’s first season in charge, which saw Celtic remain unbeaten throughout, ending 2016-17 on 106 points. Next in line were Aberdeen some 30 points below, with Rangers again finishing third, 39 points worse off than their rivals.

Celtic domination:

Despite suffering a loss in our opening 15 matches this season, it looks like normal service has resumed in the SPL. Ange Postecoglou’s men have already pulled away from a stuttering Rangers team, who have lost three times early on. They are likely to add another defeat to their tally when Celtic come to town on January 2.
