Ange Postecoglou is looking forward to having Callum McGregor in the thick of the action when the SPFL resumes at Aberdeen on December 17.

The club captain suffered what seemed like a serious knee injury away to RB Leipzig on October 5 but surgery wasn’t required with McGregor quickly appearing to be ahead of schedule in his rehab.

Despite being unable to play McGregor was in the squad that travelled to Sydney last month, taking part in public training sessions to the delight of the watching Celtic supporters.

No short cuts have been taken with his recovery but with a bounce game against Stade Rennais scheduled for next Saturday in Portugal the return to action is imminent.

He can’t wait to get cracking. He’s ready to go and it will be great to have him back. Credit to the team. People stepped up, they needed to. He’s (McGregor) such an influential player on and off the field.

Cameron [Carter-Vickers] did a fantastic job stepping in as captain alongside Joe Hart. Both of them really filled that void. To have him back will be brilliant not just for us as a team but the whole club.

The post World Cup schedule is just as frantic as the fixtures leading upto the break which saw Celtic win all of their domestic matches without McGregor.

Having a rested and fully fit captain back in action away to Aberdeen will be a significant boost with trips to Easter Road and Ibrox following in the first fortnight back.
