Adam Montgomery is set to continue his loan to St Johnstone through until the end of the season.
Mainly used as a left-back but capable of playing further forward down the left flank, the 20-year-old has started 10 SPFL matches and made two appearances off the bench. Being unable to play against Celtic restricts his possible appearances.
Montgomery was a very valuable squad member for Ange Postecoglou in the first half of last season but with the January rebuild he went on loan to Aberdeen where injury restricted his opportunities.
Clearly he has a long way to go towards competing for a place in the Celtic starting XI but a full season at St Johnstone will give real substance to his career.
The Courier reports Postecoglou saying:
I think he is happy there. He is contributing there and it’s important for us that our young players are playing.
Callum is a good coach for Adam. He develops young players well and we’d be happy for him to stay there but, obviously, that has got to be agreed by all parties.
Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei have covered the left-back position for Postecoglou with the former Kilmarnock man in outstanding form.
Montgomery is under contract until May 2025.
