Aston Villa are still the favourites to become Alfredo Morelos’ next club.

The striker has lived through 10 transfer windows without any serious interest being shown despite predictable tales of clubs keeping tabs/ lining up bids and being poised to make an offer.

Four years ago Stewart Robertson told a meeting of Ibrox fans that Morelos would only be sold for at least the £19.8m that Celtic picked up for Moussa Dembele from Lyon prompting the phrase Dembele Dollars.

Morelos was signed in the summer of 2017 by Pedro Caixinha for £1m from HJK Helsinki and been first choice striker until the start of this season when Antonio Colak took over.

With three goals so far this season and his attitude and conditioning criticised by Giovanni van Bronckhorst there has been no urgency to get the striker signed up onto a new contract.

Effectively running an advert for Coral, The Sun reports:

With six months left on his deal, Morelos looks set for pastures new.

Rangers’ all-time top scorer in European football, he has struggled for game time this season and has looked lacklustre whenever given a chance.

Nevertheless, his good record at Gers is likely to tempt one or two into taking a punt on a free transfer, with Aston Villa favourites at 2/1 with Coral to sign him.

That’s despite the departure there of Steven Gerrard, who finally started to get a tune out of Morelos in their final season together.

Sevilla come next (3/1) and have been long-linked with a move for the 26-year-old. Their La Liga rivals Villarreal were linked with a move in the summer and remain a 5/1 shot.

Lille had reportedly agreed personal terms with the striker a couple of years ago, with the sides failing to agree a fee. They could come back in and are 6/1 shots.

Almost certainly Morelos will be heading back to Colombia in the summer with limited interest in Europe for an out of condition striker with disciplinary issues.

You don’t have to be a football manager to look at Morelos’ physique,

and quickly determine that the guy is just not interested in being a professional

athlete – and would be a negative influence on any squad.

And the wee fat guy is only 26!
