Jan Gregus is apparently a January transfer target for the Bealeball revolution, the 31-year-old Slovakian is no relation to the Greatest Ever Rangers.

The midfielder is out of contract at San Jose Earthquakes next month and is a possible replacement for Ryan Jack who has six months left on his current deal.

After the bluster of Micky Beale’s arrival it is clear that there is no transfer war-chest with the £4.9m profit from summer trading used to pay off Giovanni van Bronckhorst and recruit Beale and his backroom team from QPR

Desperately trying to put a gloss on the ‘ midfield powerhouse with vast experience’ the Daily Record reports:

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta Express, 31-year-old Gregus is a target. The defensive midfielder, who previously played for Bolton Wanderers and Copenhagen before moving to MLS in 2019, is out of contract from December 31 and could be in line for a return to Europe.

Gregus has been capped 36 times by Slovakia and brings a vast wealth of experience to the table. The 6ft2in playmaker is noted for his physical presence and ability to pick a pass and it’s reported that Rangers are keen, alongside French side Stade Rennais, in adding him to the squad.

Gregus has seven assists in 29 appearances this season but it’s already confirmed he will be leaving San Jose in January. Rangers could land him for free if they decide to make a move and that’s reported to be one of the big attractions for the Ibrox side.

How an Italian publisher gets the lowdown on the transfer details of a Slovakian playing in the USA to Scotland seems something of a mystery.

With little else to cheer up their army of readers the Record will be happy to endorse anything that can be shaped up as good news.
