Carl Starfelt has hit back at a media critic that suggested he was to blame for Kevin Nisbett’s lengthy injury absence.

In February the Swede was involved in a run of the mill foul on the Hibs striker at Easter Road, Nisbet had to be substituted, after scans he was ruled out for the remainder of the season with his return delayed until this month.

The loss of Nisbet and transfer of Martin Boyle left Maloney with his hands tied behind his back, joining Jack Ross on the Easter Road scrapheap before April was out.

Starfelt has had his own injury issues this season but started his third successive match when he played alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the win against St Johnstone.

Asked about being to blame for Nisbet’s injury and absence, The Scotsman reports the Celtic defender saying:

I haven’t heard anything about that. It was really sad to see that he got a bad injury. You don’t want to be involved in that kind of injury. I know how hard it is to be kept out of the game. I felt really sorry for him, but I cannot see how you can say that it was a nasty challenge. It was not intended at all.

Someone clearly had a sharp memory, sharper than the Celtic Communication Manager who put Starfelt up to discuss the Hibs match.

Nisbet opened the scoring against Livingston on Saturday with all four goals coming between the 33rd and 50th minutes.
