One decision dominated the match and aftermath of Japan’s 2-1 win over Spain that took Daizen Maeda’s side into the last 16 of the World Cup.
Television viewers were left in the dark, from most angles the ball looked over the bye-line when Kaoru Mitoma cut the ball back but after Ao Tanaka netted VAR checked it through and the goal stood.
Pundits were puzzled or outraged, watching on TV Alex Rae couldn’t believe what he was seeing, much like a certain night in Seville earlier in the year.

Ramsey and van Bronckhorst are no longer at Ibrox, had Ryan Kent scored with a 1-on-1 in the 88th minute penalties wouldn’t have been needed.
Under the rules the ball is in it is the same at corner kicks now the ball can sit outside the arc but the curve is on the line was this not pointed out to him ?
Would it help matters any if the rules were changed regarding the width of the football lines ? If the perimeter lines were reduced to say 2 inches wide ,there might be less contentious decisions made ! Please don’t shoot the messenger ,it’s just an opinion ……..
