Barry Ferguson isn’t counting on the emotional returns of Nathan Patterson and Billy Gilmour to save the season at Ibrox.
With their title position resulting in the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst Ibrox fans have enjoyed an exceptional World Cup break.
The finest bibs and cones man has been appointed as manager, suits have been reinstated for players on match day with Micky Beale delivering acres of manager-speak in his media interviews to get fans onside.
Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen has sent delusions sky high with some fans drooling over the return of two starlets who deserted the club at the first opportunity.
Ferguson does have access to the real world with that issue brought up on Go Radio last night with The Sun reporting the former Alloa boss saying:
Well they won’t be able to afford him (Patterson) now – he’ll cost a fortune. You’ve got to understand that money talks and they’re going to move down to the English Premier League.
It’s brilliant to see young players go down there and showcase their talents and Nathan Patterson has done that at Everton.
He (Gilmour) needs to go and play football. He’s had a tough year, but he’s still a great football player and I’m sure if he’s not going to get game time at Brighton then he needs to play games of football. He’s too good to be sitting on the bench.
With a profit of just £4.9m created during the summer transfer window it looks like Mick Beale will have to be very imaginative to turn his squad over next month.
