Celtic are reported to be in contact with the agents for Afsha with regards to a January transfer deal.

The claim comes from Mark Hendry of Football Scotland, in June he broke the news of Celtic’s interest in Alexandro Bernabei.

Afsha is described as an attacking midfielder, at the age of 26 time is perhaps running out on getting a move out of Egypt with Al-Ahly seemingly keen to conclude a move.

Celtic have again been on the front foot regarding the transfer window with Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi already delivered with four weeks to go before their registration can be completed.

Tonight Football Scotland reports:

Celtic have made contact with Afsha’s representatives about a potential swoop for the attacker.

The Egyptian, 26, had been previously linked with a move to Glasgow though nothing materialised. But the Al-Ahly playmaker – full name Mohamed Magdy – is still on the radar of the Scottish champions and Football Scotland can reveal initial contact has been made.

Interest, at this moment, has not gone further than brief discussions with the player’s reps but Celtic face competition from clubs in the English Championship as well as in Europe with Turkish sides keeping a close eye.

There had been suggestions that it could be a loan deal but it’s understood it would be a permanent transfer and not an initial temporary move to the Premiership leaders.

With Callum McGregor returning to fitness Celtic appear well off for midfielders but if a deal can be struck Postecoglou doesn’t have any hesitation in adding to his squad.

With four wingers already fighting for two places in August Postecoglou brought in Sead Haksabanovic from Rubin Kazan, soon afterwards midfielder Oliver Abildgaard was signed on loan from the same club.
