In his last dozen matches in charge Giovanni van Bronckhorst was regularly adding to his list of injured players.

The good news was that they’d almost all be back after the World Cup break which many assumed would be mid-December and the resumption of the SPFL against Hibs.

For no obvious reason, almost all of the injuries would clear up while the action was underway in Qatar.

Week by week they had built up. Filip Helander hasn’t played a single match, John Souttar managed 67 minutes at Livingston in July, Kemar Roofe has made two substitute appearances with a variety of others checking out for a variety of reasons.

Yesterday Micky Beale was in charge for the first time, none of the players listed above were involved.

Three of the starting XI are out of contract in May with two others on loan. Connor Goldson and Ben Davies could be parachuted in to play against Hibs on Thursday but there was no mention of Ridvan Yilmaz or Tom Lawrence before or after yesterday’s match.

With two matches a week about to resume Beale is going to need the treatment room gutted if he is to make any improvement on the results that got van Bronckhorst sacked.
