Ross Wilson has angrily justified his actions as the contract timebomb ticks down at Ibrox.

In one month’s time nine regular first team players can sign free contracts elsewhere without a penny coming in for the fabled Player Trading Model.

Allowing so many contracts to run down at the same time is a dangerous game, in the summer of 2021 Celtic recognised that issue with Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer and Ryan Christie sold despite their previous impressive service.

In one window an important part of each area of the team was removed.

At Ibrox there is a lack of interest in their so-called stars but ahead of Tuesday’s AGM Wilson told The Sun exactly what he thought of his critics:

I don’t buy it, I don’t buy into that at all — it’s nonsense. There are two key assets who have been talked about for a long time in Kent and Morelos.

There is another group of older players who I’m sure that everybody understands good contract management is to have those lads on one-year contracts, and review them year on year.

And there are a couple of boys who have been injured quite a lot so, again, it is sensible to keep reviewing before the end of the season as well.

So I don’t buy into that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think we are comfortable with the direction of travel with our contracts.

As Ryan Jack and Filip Helander work on their return to fitness they are hardly getting encouraging or sympathetic noises from their club’s Sporting Director. Presumably, other than Kent and Morelos none of the other ‘stars’ are considered to be key assets.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
