It seems that with every week of inactivity Celtic’s lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership becomes more fragile.
Neil McCann seems to have dismissed the evidence of the first 15 matches of the season as he speculates over what direction the title race will take next weekend. The opinion of another pundit, possibly Peter Grant, saying that Celtic will win the title seems to have got under the skin of the former Dundee boss.
A nine point lead after 15 matches is pretty substantial. No one at Celtic will dare to drop their levels or take anything for granted which is the main reason that they have built up their current advantage.
Celtic started 2022 trailing by six points but turned it round to be champions by four when the prizes were decided.
The relentless, high scoring and winning performances have continued into the new term which is the main reason that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been replaced by Michael Beale.
Ignoring all of the trends and clearly upset by someone in the media, the Daily Record reports McCann saying:
Although it’s nine points in the league, I still believe it’s do-able. I find it strange because I’ve heard other guys who have played the game, whether they’ve got their Celtic hat on or whatever, on different media platforms, and they say the league is done.
If you’re a Rangers player or you’re their manager, would you surrender the league now? The answer would be no. So why, suddenly, as a pundit looking from the outside, would you just give the title up?
I take the point that if Celtic were to take more points and stretch the lead, then it becomes difficult. But while it’s still in your own hands – and it is if they go and win the three Old Firms – if they get to the 2nd of January with full points, and Celtic drop a couple, then there’s no reason why the challenge can’t still be on.
It seems that McCann is upset at someone wearing their Celtic hat in the media and giving an opinion, exactly what they are being paid a fee for.
If you live in the ifs and but world, anything is possible. Pundits saying celts will win are basing it on fact.

Even the title of this article is misleading. McCann does not sound angry to me. He is merely giving an opinion, which he is entitled to. We may not agree, but he has not said anything we wouldn’t say in the same position.
