With speculation rife about his future Giorgos Giakoumakis has posted what is known as a cryptic message on his Instagram account.

In football terms an egg-timer is often contract related, time running down with a move or switch being anticipated or hinted at.

At lunchtime on Thursday Giakoumakis posted an image of him coming off the bench against Livingston, accompanied by a rotating egg-timer as he looked towards the sky for inspiration.

It could all be incredibly innocent, he might simply be hoping for more playing minutes but a month after a story broke about a contract stand off it isn’t too much of a stretch to put two and two together and conclude that time may be running out on his time at Celtic.

Before the World Cup break Kyogo Furuhashi and Giakoumakis virtually alternated as Celtic’s striker with both players making a healthy scoring contribution.

At Aberdeen on Saturday the former VVV Venlo striker came off the bench in the 72nd minute, last night he had to wait a further 10 minutes before getting on against Livingston.

Ange Postecoglou doesn’t look like someone who will be swayed by player power let along Instagram posts, when the Celtic side to face St Johnstone is named on Saturday the first focus will be to see which striker is picked for duty.

He should be grateful for what he’s got! First team football, a manager who knows what he’s doing, UCL, winning titles and cups. How’s he going to trump that with a switch? He isn’t yet an established first-choice striker. He has to work for that!

Couldn’t agree more mate. Looks like being another one that got his chance with us, got too big for his boots, left and then disappeared into the wilderness. I remember this with the likes of Van Hoojdonk. Worked his ticket, went to Forest as a Holland international and then watched his career gradually dwindle. He wasn’t alone by any stretch!
