The winter break will be back in its usual slot next season with no matches being played between January 3 and 19.

Over the last couple of seasons the break has varied, last season it was unexpectedly brought forward by 10 days due to social distancing issues that effectively closed stadiums to fans.

This season the World Cup in Qatar has played havoc with the fixture card with a five week break imposed after just 15 rounds of SPFL fixtures and a rushed Champions League card.

Today the SPFL announced:

Fixture round 1
Weekend of August 5/6, 2023

Winter break
January 3-19, 2024

Fixture round 33
Weekend of April 13/14, 2024

Fixture round 38
Weekend of May 18/19, 2024

Effectively having two weekends off is little more than a quick breather but after a heavy December fixture card it will be very welcome.

Dubai is unlikely to appear on the Celtic schedule following the issues of 2021 under Neil Lennon but a trip to Portugal, similar to this month, could be on the cards to ensure some warm weather training.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
