Steven McLean, the first ever Scottish VAR at a domestic Celtic match will referee Saturday’s match at Aberdeen as the hoops return to action after a five week break.
The Glasgow based official has been used sparingly for Celtic matches over the last 18 months with the Pittodrie date his second of the season involving Ange Postecoglou’s side. In October he refereed the 6-1 home win over Hibs.
McLean is best remembered for being the VAR at Tynecastle when Hearts were awarded two penalties with what appeared to be a blatant handball from Michael Smith from a James Forrest pass going unpunished.
Late in the match, which Celtic won 4-3 Liel Abada had a ‘goal’ disallowed for offside with no supporting image ever produced to support that decision.
At Pittodrie Kevin Clancy will be the VAR with the added back up of Sky Sports covering the match.

? Ange Postecoglou couldn’t believe it when Celtic were not awarded a penalty after claims for a handball against Michael Smith. Was that the right call? ?? pic.twitter.com/aY9LoXrnsX

nothing wrong with var its the corrupt officals who operate it.
Can’t or won’t Celtic put a protest in about these incompetent peepul.
MC Lean is about as useful as giving Mr Leland Sklar one of those nifty Gillette razor blades for Christmas ….
Is there a rule about refs, ex-refs doing VAR (despite the title) ?
