Giorgos Giakoumakis is reported to be heading to Amsterdam to undergo a medical ahead of joining Urawa Red Diamonds.

The striker has been the subject of transfer speculation for two months after talks over an improved Celtic deal broke down.

Giakoumakis has sat out Celtic’s last two matches with the signing of Oh Hyeon gyu suggesting that the Greek striker was nearing the end of his hoops career.

Tonight The Sun reports:

GIORGOS GIAKOUMAKIS is poised to seal a £4million move to J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds.

The Celtic striker has been given permission to finalise terms and undergo a medical in Amsterdam.

David Friel is running the story, in February 2021 he was 10 hours ahead of the Stock Market with news that Neil Lennon had resigned from Celtic.

Over the last 12 months Giakoumakis has filled an important role for Celtic, leading the line in last season’s title success and proving to be a very able deputy for Kyogo Furuhashi this season.

Ange Postecoglou has take a very matter of fact view to transfer speculation, by signing up Oh he was clearly planning for life without Giakoumakis at Celtic.

Undergoing a medical doesn’t mean that the transfer is completed but unless Atalanta United quickly revive their offer it looks like the 28-year-old striker is about to reverse the trend and join the J-League.

So, GG is offskie, not news, Celtic are getting money, not news, where GG goes is news. However, the Atlanta prospect was always doubtful. Loan to buy, no cash for loan and if his hoop jumping,(pun intended) met the terms of the loan then Celtic get their Fee. It’s either cash in hand or no deal. Got to love our Press and their sad attempts to suggest knowledge in our dealings.

Brendan Rogers won an Invincible Treble in his first season as Celtic manager. Just sayin’!

      Why?

      Just asking.

First season can happen like that, BR, did our team proud, he left, and then whatever happened after was crap. Standards dropped big time, “just saying”. Ange resurrection is still in progress, the fact that much has improved means more to me. Our whole football department has got it’s act together and let’s be candid, the new regime, including the Board, has improved their Psyche re Our methodology. It’s refreshing, as long as it continues to evolve, then things will remain calm.

Sorry? First season mangers can win Invincible Trebles, but tend not to?! Seriously?
As things stand, we’re betting Kyogo and Oh will click and score the goals we need.
But, of course that is a gamble! I wonder what the odds are … ?
You don’t really want to win, now do you?

Sounds like it is heading in the right direction, he has to go now.
We can’t have a disgruntled player in the dressing room at the business end of the season.
There is something wrong with this player or his agent or both.
The bones can be picked out of it later.
The guy has had too many clubs for his age, he is a proven goalscorer, yet no interest from Premiership or Championship? Weird!
When you get a player like Anthony Gordon moving for 45M there is something seriously wrong with football.
