Ange gets specific over transfer plan

Ange Postecoglou is looking to bring in one more player in the last fortnight of the transfer window.

The Australian is in his fourth transfer window as Celtic boss with the team and squad unrecognisable from what he took over in the summer of 2021.

Celtic fans have been delighted by Postecoglou’s pro-active approach to transfers with three signings already in place each year before the January window opened.

Postecoglou now has the squad depth needed to refresh and rotate domestically without standards dropping but is looking for that elusive talent that can make Celtic a force in Europe.

The Sun reports Postecoglou saying:

We need to strengthen further, we need to keep getting stronger. None of the three boys we’ve signed played on Saturday, but they’re going to add to us and hopefully we’re going to get another one in the door before the end of the window.

Last year we had a core of players who had delivered, but I just felt we needed a stronger squad to be able to tackle what we need to tackle at this club, trying to win three domestic trophies and being in the Champions League.

There’s always the possibility guys might move on for whatever reason. It’s not about me pushing anyone out the door, everyone has decisions to make. If something comes on the table one of them feels strongly about we’ll discuss it, but right now I’m more about bringing in than letting them go.

Mentioning one sounds like there is a specific target in mind but outgoing business could shift the focus of who Celtic bring in.

Josip Juranovic and Giorgos Giakoumakis are both under contract until May 2026 but been linked with moves away.

Alistair Johnston looks a ready made replacement for Juranovic but if Giakoumakis was sold a replacement striker would seem to be a priority.
