Ange Postecoglou has highlighted Carl Starfelt as the cornerstone of his Celtic side.

The Swede suffered two spells out through injury before the World Cup break has started all 10 matches that Celtic have played since the campaign resumed at Pittodrie.

Sunday’s win away to Dundee United was the fifth successive clean sheet that Celtic have achieved with Postecoglou puzzled by the lack of recognition that the Swedish defender receives.

Responding to that issue the Daily Record reports the Celtic boss saying:

Maybe externally, but internally he certainly does. Carl has been a cornerstone of our team since pretty much the day he arrived last year. He was one of the first ones we signed.

You know, I guess he is a bit understated in the way he plays the game. He rarely gets beaten, he is always in the right areas and contributing both to our attack and our defence and it is a credit to him and Cam.

At the start of 2022 Carter-Vickers and Starfelt began an amazing run of playing together in every minute of Celtic’s 18 SPFL Premiership fixtures. Fifteen wins and three draws delivered the title.

A year ago the title was starting to turn Celtic’s way with virtually no margin for error, despite having a nine point lead going into February Postecoglou is demanding even higher standards as he drives towards a second title and guaranteed return to the Champions League.
