Celtic defender closes in on Bundesliga switch

Transfer

Moritz Jenz is reported to be close to agreeing a loan switch from Celtic to Schalke 04.

The defender made the last of his 19 appearances on November 12 when he was injured at home to Ross County with Carl Starfelt coming off the bench to take his place.

Six of those appearances were in the Champions League but with the Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers partnership restored in seems that Ange Postecoglou sees no place for Jenz.

The on loan defender was missing from the Celtic matchday squad for the last two matches with new signing Yuki Kobayashi coming in to partner with Starfelt.

At 16.31 today on his live transfer blog, Gianluca di Marzio reported:

Schalke 04 , Moritz Jenz from Lorient is about to arrive on loan with a buy-out option, but currently on loan at Celtic.

There has been no comment from Celtic about Jenz leaving the club but with one week left in the transfer window activity is bound to intensify.

Celtic also have Stephen Welsh available to play in central defence with Bosun Lawal making his first team debut in the final few minutes of Saturday’s 5-0 win over Morton.
