The Celtic support lit up Hampden Park with a spectacular pre-match lights show as the hoops overcame Kilmarnock 2-0 to book a place in next month’s Viaplay Cup Final.

It was a foul night inside the Hampden bowl as the wind and rain combined to spoil any chance of a spectacle for the 50,000 fans.

More than 40,000 were on their feet in the 18th minute when Daizen Maeda opened the scoring, how much he knew about a bizarre attempted clearance from Kyle Laffery is unknown but no one was bothering as the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Reo Hatate and Maeda had efforts ruled out due to VAR with Killie given a lifeline when six minutes were added at the end of the match.

Three Celtic substitutes combined as James Forrest set up David Turnbull, when Sam Walker parried the midfielder’s shot Giorgos Giakomakis tapped the rebound in to book Celtic’s final place.
