Morgan Whittaker is apparently ‘keen for the opportunity to join Rangers’ as the Ibrox club prepare a third lowball bid for the Swansea forward.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Plymouth Argyle prompting Micky Beale to claim that he was the outstanding talent in League One.

With a contract running until May 2025 bids of £900,000 and £1.5m was never going to get Swansea into serious negotiations but keeping bears upbeat is an important task when they trail Celtic by nine points.

Despite the excitement of the Beale Revolution Ross Wilson has been unable to bring in any new signings although Norwich outcast Todd Cantwell could sign up this weekend.

With John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Malik Tillman and Scot Arfield already at the club it is difficult to see where Cantwell will fit in despite the hype and spin that will accompany any Ibrox signing.

The last offer was believed to be around £1.5 million including add-ons. Whittaker, who spent the first half of the season on-loan, is keen for the opportunity to join Rangers.

The Light Blues aren’t ready to throw in the towel and will go in again. The Welsh side are trying to persuade Whittaker to remain with the Swans.

Swansea boss Russell Martin is set to include the 22-year-old in his travelling squad for their weekend trip to Queen’s Park Rangers. Rangers’ would be forced to shelf their interest in this window if Whittaker was to play for Swansea before the close of the window.

He has already turned out for Plymouth on-loan and can only play for two teams in the one season.

West Brom and Ipswich have also been linked with a move for Whittaker.
