Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting that Sampdoria have agreed a deal to sign Giorgos Giakoumakis with ‘only’ negotiations with Celtic for a loan deal to be completed.

With the Genoa club sitting second bottom of Serie A and seven points adrift of safety it looks very much like they are trying to demonstrate to supporters that they are serious about avoiding relegation.

Nine points from 17 matches is a pretty grim record, with just eight goals scored it is clear where Sampdoria’s problems lie.

Transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio reports:

Sampdoria has found the striker to give to Stankovic. The profile is that of Georgios Giakoumakis, Greek striker of Celtic. The striker has already given his go-ahead to the Blucerchiati, but they’re not the only team supporting him.

The class of 1994 also likes the Urawa Reds, a team from the top Japanese category. However, Sampdoria has an agreement with Giakoumakis and now must find the one with Celtic. The Sampdoria offer the Scottish club a loan with an obligation to buy in case of salvation.

Sampdoria has on its side, in the duo match against Urawa, the fact that Giakoumakis wants to stay in Europe. The blucerchiati have identified him as their reinforcement for the attack.

The Greek striker had been the top scorer in the Eredivisie with then relegated Venlo in 2020/21, while for Celtic he scored 19 goals in 30 games, including 13 in the first season in which he had been the top scorer in the Scottish league. In his career he also won a Greek championship with AEK Athens.

Sampdoria can have as many agreements as they like in place with the player but a loan deal makes no sense to Celtic on any level.

One injury to Kyogo Furuhashi and Ange Postecoglou is struggling for a striker, even if he signs Cho Gue-sung the Korean has only played four World Cup matches since his last club game in October.

Getting match fit and tuned in with the Celtic style of play while settling in a different continent with no other Korean players at the club isn’t a one week process.

Any club serious about Giakoumakis know the ballpark figure that Celtic are looking for and the wages that the striker is said to be unhappy over.

Despite previous rumours it seems that Samp have zero interest in signing Alfredo Morelos.

It’s interesting in that the English football authorities have had sufficient of this homophobic crap (it’s been around since the 80s so about time) and are threating clubs like Forest Man U etc with all sorts of sanctions. Quite right. Now moving north a wee bit will our authorities follow in stopping such ours is the same in principle and worse in practice?? If not folks a few Dear UEFA why in England is this happening and not here email’s called for. If our neighbours are taking a stance…

Move the SFA to Edinburgh and ditch the West of Scotland influence-factor from their decision-making processes. People say that the bigotry is only manifest here, in the WOS and similarly in the North-East of Ireland.
So, take the decision making process away from here and similarly destroy the negative influence coming from these areas!
